INGREDIENTS

1 Shot Espresso

30 ml Kahlúa

30 ml Heavy Cream

1 tbs Mascarpone Cheese

1 tsp Powdered Sugar (Optional)

1 tsp Vanilla Extract

90 ml Milk of your Choice

Cocoa Powder

Ladyfinger Biscuit on Top

Ice

1 Shot Espresso

1 part Kahlúa

1 part Heavy Cream

1 tbs Mascarpone Cheese

1 tsp Powdered Sugar (Optional)

1 tsp Vanilla Extract

3 parts Milk of your Choice

Cocoa Powder

Ladyfinger Biscuit on Top

Ice

1 Shot Espresso

1 oz Kahlúa

1 oz Heavy Cream

1 tbs Mascarpone Cheese

1 tsp Powdered Sugar (Optional)

1 tsp Vanilla Extract

3 oz Milk of your Choice

Cocoa Powder

Ladyfinger Biscuit on Top

HOW TO MAKE

  1. Fill a rocks glass with ice and pour in the milk of your choice.

  2. Gently pour in the espresso coffee (cooled) and the Kahlúa to create that layered effect.

  3. In a separate small bowl, add the mascarpone cheese, heavy cream and optional sugar and vanilla extract, and whisk thoroughly. (Use an electric whisk, if possible)

  4. Gently layer the cream mixture on top of the drink and use a spoon to flatten the top.

  5. Garnish with cocoa powder or chocolate shavings.

  6. Optional: Add a ladyfinger biscuit on top and use it to scoop out the creamy top.

TOOLS YOU’LL NEED

Jigger or Measuring Tool

A precise tool will help you get the right balance in the ingredients, but you can also use a 30 ml / 1 oz shot glass. We also say measuring spoons are useful particularly when adding the sugar and vanilla extract.

Espresso Machine or Coffee Maker

We suggest using a reliable espresso machine or coffee maker to ensure the base of your drink is rich and flavourful. You can also use a stove-top percolator or if you don’t have either, try a high-quality instant coffee.

Rocks Glass

A low-ball or rocks glass is our preferred choice for serving this drink, as its wide brim allows for easy layering and garnishing. Plus, it adds a touch of sophistication to your presentation. But any short glass or clear mug will do.

Electric Whisk

An electric whisk is best for creating a smooth, creamy texture in the mascarpone mixture. You can use a hand whisk as well, or even a spoon, as long as you mix it thoroughly.

Mixing Bowl

Use a small mixing bowl to combine the mascarpone cheese, heavy cream, and other ingredients. Choose a bowl that’s easy to hold and whisk in. You can even use a glass if you like, we often do it too.

Spoon

You’ll need a tablespoon for gently layering the cream mixture on top of the drink to achieve that beautiful, flat finish.

1. Cool Your Espresso.

Allow your espresso to cool before pouring it into the glass. This helps maintain the distinct layers and prevents the ice from melting too quickly.

2. Choose Your Favourite Milk

We suggest using whole milk for a creamier finish. But if you, like us, love dairy-free options, our favourite is almond milk for a nuttier, tiramisu-like taste.

3. Use an Electric Whisk.

When preparing the mascarpone mixture, we suggest using an electric whisk to ensure the texture is light, smooth, and creamy.

4. Layer Carefully.

Make sure to slowly pour the espresso and Kahlúa gently over the milk to create a stunning layered effect. Trust us, it’s worth the look.

5. Serve with a Biscuit.

Adding a ladyfinger biscuit on top not only enhances the tiramisu look, but also provides a delightful treat to scoop up the creamy top layer.
