ESPRESSO MARTINI COCKTAIL ‘TAKEAWAY’ CUPS

Kahlúa, the coffee liqueur, has invented takeaway Espresso Martini ‘glasses’ for picnics, parks, and cocktails on the go to celebrate its new bottle design. Made through 3D printing, the liqueur has pioneered a prototype that could offer bars and coffee houses a chic way to offer takeaway martinis this summer.

A limited run of the cups have now been produced to help the brand test the invention, which they are hoping to further develop and roll out over the coming months. With coffee shops being one of the few places to have remained almost consistently open throughout the last year, a new survey has revealed that as a country we are drinking more coffee than ever before – with the average person having more than 1,350 cups a year – or 85,000 in a lifetime. That’s enough to fill four Olympic-sized swimming pools.

Commissioned to mark the launch of Kahlúa’s vibrant new bottle design – inspired by its coffee credentials and Mexican roots – a research of 2,000 adults* found three in five can’t go a day without a coffee, and 86 per cent are self-confessed coffee lovers. So much so that since lockdown started, a quarter have been drinking more coffee than usual and have even been experimenting with incorporating the drink into other aspects of their lives including coffee-scented candles (11 per cent), coffee-flavoured body scrubs (10 per cent) and adding coffee into their cooking and baking (48 per cent).  Nearly half of those asked said the Espresso Martini was their cocktail of choice as it offers the ‘best of both worlds’.

Helping to bring some fun to these coffee consumption moments, and mark their new introduction, Kahlúa is working with coffee shops across the country to add the much-loved Espresso Martini cocktail to the menu – and you can get one for free!

The brand is blurring the lines between bar and coffee shop, by partnering with local coffee shops across the UK to add coffee cocktails to the menu and, for one weekend only (21-22 May), offer free Espresso Martini cocktails to customers at E Pellicci in East London*.

SUPPORTING COFFEE SHOPS

In addition to offering coffee-lovers a free Espresso Martini, Kahlúa has also pledged to support baristas and coffeeshops as they begin to open their doors once again – offering a ‘coffee clinic’ to help them get their alcohol licenses to serve cocktails, and barista training for the ultimate coffee cocktails.

Tamara Urukalo, Global VP Marketing, Kahlúa, said: “Coffee shops have remained open throughout lockdown acting as a ‘pick-me-up’ for many. As restrictions ease, we want to ensure they remain at the heart of the neighbourhood. That’s why we’ve pledged to support coffee shops across the UK with the training, funds and equipment needed to add Kahlúa coffee cocktails to their menus.
